The AOC Margaux is a wine region of Bordeaux. This term refers to the top-Médoc wines produced along the Gironde estuary in the north-west of Bordeaux. In this area, the vines are planted on a gravelly soil white (sort of gravel) Pyrenees brought long ago by the river. This soil is excellent for Cabernet Sauvignon, Petit Verdot and Merlot.
The Margaux blend well with red meats particularly game (duck, partridge). The aromas that are commonly found on Margaux are: red fruit, toast, coffee, or the nose. For my part Margaux is my favorite of the Bordeaux region AOC for red wines because the wine combines softness and structure. A nice balance, but this is entirely subjective. Margaux's are good wines. Some Margaux were kept ... 50 years! This is the case of the vintage of 1945, which had kept a tannic structure still present in ... 2002! There are 21 Grand Cru Classé
